The Library is proud to be a state-of-the-art public access computing facility. At the Main Library, we have 34 Windows workstations for adults and teens and 12 for children. We also have 9 iMacs. Our computers offer a high-speed Internet connection as well as the Microsoft Office Suite. Visit the Collaboratory, our 2,400-square-foot makerspace, for a wide range of digital media creation tools, a Microsoft Surface Hub collaboration device, and computerized fabrication equipment including a laser cutter. Three touch-screen early literacy stations in the Children’s Department provide educational technology for preschoolers.
Computer use is free, but does require a Connecticut public library card in good standing. Black and white printing costs 10 cents per page, and color printing is 50 cents per page for letter size paper. A large print keyboard and trackball mouse are available at the Information Desk. For your own safety, anything saved to the hard drive of a library computer is erased at the end the day. Please be sure to save your work to cloud or removable storage.
We also have a Book Scan Center which allows you to scan documents or photos and e-mail or save them to a flash drive, smartphone, or Google Docs. In addition, you may send faxes with the Book Scan Center for $1.00 per page.
There is an Ultimaker S3 3D printer at the Main Library. Printing costs $2.00 per hour.
We offer unsecured Wi-Fi at the Main Library and Yalesville Branch. Wireless printing from any Internet-connected device is available at the Main Library. In addition, we offer a secured VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection for those bringing their own wireless devices to the Main Library.
Periodically, the Library holds small group classes and one-on-one tutoring sessions in basic computer applications. Please check our calendar for the current schedule.
